What Causes A Sinus Infection
Sinus infection, or sinusitis, is an inflammation of the sinuses and nasal passages. The symptoms of a sinus infection is usually severe headache and a lot of pressure in the head or behind the eyes. If you have a sinus infection you may also experience a cough, fever and congestion.
Acute sinusitis may be caused by a variety of bacteria and often develops after something blocks the openings to the sinuses. If you have a cold, the swollen mucous membranes of the nasal cavity can block the openings of the sinuses. Air in the sinuses is absorbed into the bloodstream, and the pressure inside the sinuses decreases, causing pain and drawing fluid into the sinuses. This fluid is a breeding ground for bacteria.
