Early Childhood Mental Health
Mental health organizations focusing on children ages infant to 5 years old concentrate on behavioral and emotional stability for children. Their theory is if the child has a stable environment, with caregivers that adequately understand children need support and stimulation, they can circumvent or forestall some behavioral problems in the future. The “infant mental health services” category focuses on “children who live in chaotic or unpredictable environments or children who have noticeable difficulty in establishing loving, stable relationships with caring adults.” (www.connectforkids.org) They understand that identifying issues while the child is young, and taking steps to intervene is better than waiting for the child to age a little more, and have greater social, emotional, and behavioral problems.
