The Primary Types Of Eating Disorders
The primary types of eating disorders that are treated at eating disorder clinics are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Anorexia nervosa is self-imposed starvation that can be life threatening. The physical and mental health of a person who suffers from anorexia is at stake. Bulimia involves a repeated cycle of out-of-control eating that is followed by some type of purging such as vomiting, or the use of a diuretic or laxative. Those who suffer from bulimia often feel like food is the only area of their life that they can control. People who have binge eating disorder compulsively overeat even when they feel guilty and ashamed of their behavior
