Nutrition Label: Understanding The Numbers

Every food product that is sold in the market comes with a nutrition fact label. If you read and understand a nutrition fact label correctly, it can be a valuable resource to help us make the right dietary choices. Serving size and servings per container is something you need to understand well, as many times we think we are eating one serving but may actually be eating two or more in reality. Another important factor is the number of total calories and number of calories from fat and you must understand that this information too is per serving. Nutrition numbers on a label typically include:

Total Fat
Saturated Fat
Trans Fat
Total Carbohydrates
Dietary fiber
Sugars
Protein
Cholesterol
Sodium
Monosaturated and Polyunsaturated Fat
