What Is a Thunderclap Headache?

thunderclap headache refers to an agonizing, sudden and severe headache.  It is unexpected and explosive much like a “clap of thunder”.  In less than one minute, you will go from normal to severe, even debilitating pain.  The pain will peek within 60 seconds and usually fade in a few hours, although of these headaches can last for 10 days!  There will be no warning signs, or obvious reasons for the headache, and no over the counter pain reliever will help to alleviate your pain. They are similar in nature to a migraine, in that it hits very suddenly and there doesn’t seem to be any real cause.   In cases like these, it is vitally important to seek medical attention should as quickly as possible.
